what's been going on:
hurst stores celebrating 65 years.
pictures to follow, as soon as i can find my cord.
what's been in my head:
lots.
what i can't wait for:
lake powell.
thoughts:
lately i've been thinking a lot about FRIENDS.
in two ways. what it is to be a friend, and how friends is really a title that is so restrictive on the people you're the closest with.
sometimes you think you have "a keeper" and you find out you're mistaken.
it may take you a month to "break up" as my dad would say, or years. then you're left wondering what happened.
but, sometimes you find friends in the most unlikely places.
and they can replace the friends you've lost throughout the years. eventually, they even seem like family.
i've grown up away from family all my life, it's just been me, my parents, and my siblings out in the midwest. but we're not alone. there's been some amazing people who have filled the holes our family couldn't from so far away.
in the nineteen years of my life i have been honored to meet the people i have. i've had great friends and family. i think it's killing me to be out here because i have so many friends i am still close with that i want to share experiences with. at the same time, i'm so greatful for the byu phase in my life, and they are filling holes as well. its funny how that works.
also weighing heavy on my heart and mind is my grandpa ross. today marks a year before i heard my grandpa's voice in person, saw his smile, felt his hug, and spent time with him. a perfect weekend, it was true grandpa ross style. he flew in on friday with grandma, jason, nicole, ethan, and chloe. helped with my graduation party. celebrated. saturday went to my graduation, listened to my speech, took some pictures. played golf with the boys. sunday church, and then a picnic in the park, along with some wiffle ball. it was perfect now that i think of those last memories.. the snow cone machine he paid for. my friends he met. playing golf in my community. working my ward family, who loves him too. then, playing the family game of baseball. and then we shared our last hug and goodbye exactly a month before we would lose him.
my uncle jared is engaged and tonight was a special night. he talked with my grandma about how they did an interview with his bishop, he got his temple recommend, etc. we talked about how bad we hope grandpa will be there. no matter what age you get married, every boy (or girl) deserves to have their dad there. anyways.
i just can't get that man out of my mind. i wish he was there. i wish he could of been there for the store's anniversary. i wish i could hear he was proud of me one last time.

the year of 'perfect ten' in review- day five.
the most important ten of 2010 #5
i planned some pretty great events (if i do say so myself)
in high school student council was my thing. i tried sports, they were okay. i did the whole band/ choir thing, it was okay. but student council. student council worked for me. i'm kinda bossy, so maybe that's why. but i like planning things, creating hype, themes, advertising, etc.
of my senior year stuco activities i was involved with, i had a couple i was most proud of. first was the beginning of "super fan night." i quit basketball at the beginning of the year and it allowed me to focus on other things, like student council of course. i planned dv's first super fan night, complete with people dressing insane (even got someone wearing a panther suit), a cheer off, prizes, and an amazing super fan cape for the winner. it was quite a fun night. it brought great attendance to the game against our rival and was a success.
then there was "caring of coach". this was an event with much more meaning. for the more info go to this site and for the story go here. it was a fundraiser for our head football coach and it was a great community event. we raised over $15,000 dollars. this far exceeded expectations, as well as the turnout. it made me LOVE my community. i already did, but seriously. those people are amazing. the event had two parts. first was the bake sale and football game. the football game was local news anchors (who were great great help in advertising, gained more sponsors, etc) against the high school football players. then we headed to the fire hall were the firefighters cooked us dinner. the line was out the door and down the street. amazing amazing amazing! it made me want to cry, but i had too much more to do :) then where the fire engines usually are kept we had a silent auction with fabulous items, all donated from my incredible community. we also had a magician. so. in one night we raised $15,000. and we were SO HAPPY. sadly, that only made a dent in the funds mr. jund needs for his treatment and the things he needs to live with his condition. (MS) nonetheless, it really brought the community together and really made me appreciate the great people i grew up around.
last but not least was my graduation party. i really cannot take much of the credit this event, my mom did most of it, with the help of some great family friends. but i thought it was pretty fun :) i'll do a little run through for you. you walk to my backyard. the weather was gorgeous! there were tables and chairs set up, a tent with tables in it as well. in the tent was a tv with a slideshow that my good friend elizabeth made that took you through my life. and down the middle of the tables was a really cute fabric and pictures.. idk really how to explain it was it was like party planner perfect. then on the side of the tent (outside) were two tables. one had a box for cards, with a senior picture and then a bulletin board that people put little notes for me on. on the other table was just various awards and an BYU things i made, and then my "30 favorite things" in a book, scrapbook style. this took me foreverrrr but it was worth it.
anyways i know this is long and you probably didn't read it all. there you go. ps i want to be a party planner.
and day six will go with seven tomorrow :)

the year of 'perfect ten' in review- day one.
this was a big big year for me, so in honor of 2010, i've decided to break down the ten most important moments/experiences/activities/etc of the year.
every day for the next ten days i'll share one of the "tens" of my 2010.
the most important ten of 2010 #1
its funny how something can be so important, and in a matter of months barely be a thought. this is high school to me. i threw myself into those four years.. student council, grades, community service, family, friends, babysitting.. it all was my world. now few of those things still apply to my life. but of course one, the most important of them, is the same- family.
graduation parties are big in the midwest, and my family thought it was pretty silly. my mom and dad would say, "you better graduate high school, its expected, so i don't understand why you deserve a party." but we kept with the tradition. and it was quite a party.
much of high school seems so silly now, but most of it is what got me here, or made me who i am today. so for that i look back, smile, am grateful, but am glad i've moved on.

what's going on now.
now:
stressing about graduation party (so much to do!)
have three speeches to write (two church talks.. seminary and sac. meeting, and a graduation welcome)
getting ready for finals (stats, lit, and gov)
loving my family more and more (which is great because i'm leaving in a month)
trying to keep loving creativity (although it seems too much of it is required right now)
then:
going to st george
being best friends with brynley :)
working for my grandpa
getting tan
grandpa's cancer may being coming back (but doctors are very optimistic)- keep him in your prayers. he is an example to me and many others, and i love him very, very much.
stay beautiful- ashley ann.
