i'm a leader.. one last time

Guess what? This is my last post for classes. YAY! I was getting tired of capitalizing my letters. (Maybe that's something I should get used to though, huh?) Today is my last day of my M/W classes and tomorrow I have one class left until I get to enjoy finals (sarcastic font.. Alex please be reading..), but then that means home is just around the corner. I really can't wait. But I guess I should get to the point, huh?

This past week leadership was focused on networking. I love this topic. I feel like networking was my forte in high school; and learning about it more gave me some thoughts of how it can be my forte in college, too. In high school I knew so many random people. Why? Well, I was a Facebook creep- let's be real. But I also was involved, and that involvement took me to meet others who were involved. Most of my networking I accredit to student council, HOBY, and FBLA. Statewide conferences were great for bouncing off ideas from other students and some even turned from acquaintances to friends. Those conferences were some of my fondest high school memories, but it was also a part of high school that I had forgotten while here at BYU.
During our lab Monday I thought about them more as I visited with Tess Hilmo. To be honest the lab wasn't what I expected. I thought we would be rotating amongst the professionals that were there, so I just sat down at the first available chair. That chair was at Tess's table. She is an published author- very cool, but not something that interests me for my future. As I noticed we would not be switching tables at all, I felt like I had not put myself in a place to get as much as I could out of this lab. However, she talked a lot about the writing/author conferences she goes to and how that is a great networking tool. This reminded me of the conferences I went to in high school and all of the great contacts I have because of it.
Many say BYU and members of the LDS church make for a very small world. It's SO true. Here's a funny story that deals with BYU and my high school conference:
Through state student council conventions I made a friend, Kate. We texted almost regularly, especially when anything was upcoming for student council or FBLA (which we were both in). Before FBLA spring conference she told me she had a friend she wanted me to meet from her school that she thought I would like. She told me a little bit about him, but then said one thing, "But there is one kinda weird thing about him... He's Mormon." I couldn't help but laugh. Apparently Kate didn't know I was Mormon, too. This made me even more excited to meet him, as I was the only member at my school. Long story short, we briefly met at FBLA but after high school he went to BYU and then on his mission and that was about the end of Trevor. Well guess what? Trevor is back and is now living at the same apartment complex as me. Oh BYU. :)
I'm glad that one of my "contacts" from high school networking carried onto my college experience, but I look forward to making more contacts while here at BYU. The people at BYU are so friendly and the alum are so willing to help, so I don't see it being too difficult. This networking will open doors for internships, jobs and careers.

don't judge me..

i think a night in the library is making me crazy! haha. i'm lonely and this lack of social interaction is killing me!

..so much that i have a really large urging to go to a random table of boys behind me and be like "what the heck are we doing at the library on a friday night? let's be friends and leave for something more exciting."

but that sounds dumb, i'd look dumb, and they'd probably be like uh we'll pass you don't look like much fun. haha kidding, but kinda not. i don't blame them, i don't even have friends with me.

see! i am kinda going crazy. anyways. i'll leave you with a song that has been popping up on pandora a lot lately and i enjoy.

ps- happy seventh birthday my cutest little brother samuel john :)

happy.

this week has been a good one. i don't know really why.. when i actually think about it nothing has went particularly awesome, i've just been really happy.

one thing that's been a major contributor is my school. i used to be a hater. i didn't even want to apply to byu.. but here i am! and i can't imagine it any other way.
one thing that really "got me" was tuesday at devotional.. neil a. anderson from the quorum of the twelve was our speaker- i've never appreciated how great he is!
right off the bat he told us how the first presidency send their love and how president monson is proud of us and they talk about us frequently, etc. he said the same for the entire quorum of the twelve apostles. to be honest i almost started crying. we are so lucky! a prophet of the Lord thinks and prays for us and our school is under his direction. not many people can say that.. i'm a pretty lucky girl.

in utah i'm family-less, but not really. i have real family, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents, as well as fake family. on friday i went with brynley and her grandparents to a little town somewhere in the middle of no where to watch her brother, davis, play football. we met up with her other grandparents and parents. i felt like part of the family, it was fun! i love being with the andersons!
bryn, aimee, and i trying to keep dry. i was wearing her grandpa's sweatshirt, don't even worry about it.
i'm loving living with alex and rachel this year! it's so much fun. i particularly enjoy our spontaneous sonic runs, as seen here.
i'm currently on my way to st. george for the royal wedding, aka jared and elizabeth's wedding. i'm in charge of the photobooth. the props are here.. thank goodness we have boys like these to test them out.
can't wait for a weekend of family and wedding bliss!

my classes are cooler than your classes.

good news. i now HAVE to blog as part of my grade for two classes. i'm not complaining.
my blog is no rockstair diaries .. but i kinda like it.
in one class i have to blog about the class, but in the other i just have to blog. needless to say, i'm pretty excited to be blogging and have it actually be something i should be doing.
i have put way too much thought into my first "assignment blog post".
i got to thinking about why i blog.
sometimes i feel like blogging is always an assignment. since i have one i feel like i need to keep it current, even though it's not like there's anyone anxiously awaiting my next blog post.
in reality, my blog is mostly for me. it's a second journal but you can actually learn a lot about my life and who i am if you read my blog.
i do know that sometimes it's a way of communication. i have friends who, unfortunately, know more about my life because of my blog, not me keeping in touch.
it's a way of expression in multiple ways. sometimes it's nice to be able to "let it all out" in a way and not know who is going to be listening. what i need most the time when i'm annoyed or having a bad day or whatever it might be is just to talk about it. to be honest i don't care too much if someone is listening, or if they care, or if they respond.. so in that sense a blog is great. ..it's kinda like talking to yourself. :) weird.
and, for those few readers i actually do have, it's a way to share ideas. most the time it's a favorite song or a favorite quote. every now and then it's a craft or what i'm buying because of the occasional online shopping addiction phases i go through.
i wish i could say i blog because i have a super exciting life and everyone wants to read about it and drool over my awesomeness, but we all know that's not true. but sometimes i pretend that when i see all my "page views" that i'm pretty cool and other people think so too. but then i do something embarrassing and i'm brought back down to earth. (like how i just typed that and re-read it and it didn't make any sense, and i had like four type-o's)
so.. there you have it. that's why i blog. take it or leave it. love it or hate it. read it or.. don't.

hopefully you have some class this semester with an assignment you can be excited about. if not, go sign up for mcomm 320 i guess!

8.29.2011

first day jitters.

it's the day before classes and i'm so giddy! i'm reading through the info on blackboard and getting pretty excited for this semester. weird? yes. but it's so good to be back in provo!
a walk down memory lane.. e dog and i all ready to go! :)

8.28.2011

rewind. review. continue.

so here's what's going on, according to my iphone picture timeline.
ST GEORGE
this baby is on sale. its literally a baby. a baby grand that is. got it up and running on craigslist while i was in stg. k none of you probably cared about that.
i started on the photo booth for jared and elizabeth's wedding. this is the bunting.. you like?
DRIVE TO PROVO
listened to this song. i just liked that it said this on the little thinger. (oh yeah, recently i discovered i used the word "thinger" for just about everything.)
WORK IN HEBER
i saw this and just couldn't help but wonder.. is this a utah/mormon joke? only the utah/mormons will get this.
i visited the local favorite, well apparently state favorite, dairy keen. yummm chocolate strawberry and coconut shake.
this was my favorite work project. i mostly did inventory but on the last day lynne (my boss) had me make a sign for the barn. i'm not going to lie to you, timberline ace hardware is pretty country. we sell ifa goods. don't know what that is? me either. its stuff for your farm. represent.
in between work days i got to spend lots of time with the cousins. the clarks are the greatest and i stayed with them for two weeks. i took over sophie's bedroom and everything. one night i went up to salt lake and babysat this kid and his siblings. i love them all!
DRIVING
in the past few weeks i've probably driven around 800 miles. actually i might dare say more 900 to 1000. a trip to st. george + heber every day for work gave me lots of alone time i guess. and i became slightly obsessed with the utah skyline, aka the mountains.
PROVO
meet my new home. cozy right? ha. it'll do. i'll have to do a before and after once i get settled. but this is what we (hayley and i) started with. ps hayley is my roommate. i'll introduce her soon. she's basically the best thing ever. i scored.
i won't lie, my eating habit were HORRIBLE before i went to the grocery store. yep, this was my dinner one night. can't say i minded it. but now i have some sweet peas and strawberries, and good stuff like that :)
let me just tell you a little secret. this is how you make me happy.. invite me to froyo (rachael kohler) and then give me a froyo coupon (molly flanigan). ps.. here's a shoutout to good ol' chaych.
that's her in the middle. she's twenty. yeah. old. so. anyone who needs to get married soon... kidding :) ps the crazy on the far right is on his mish! ah. miss ry reich. all these boys are just leaving left and right! i guess i should say something about kels too.. kidding. i love her lots. and am so glad we're reunited. just like old times. for realsies.
confused by this picture? its the view from my bed on friday night/ sunday morning. yep. outside. nope.. i wasn't in the woods camping. just outside my window in the parking lot trying to get a parking pass. got one. better be worth it!

and that's all.
classes tomorrow.
do i have any of my books? nope.
great start.
peace and love -alexis halladay

i'm not going to lie to you..

i want to be in love after reading/watching this post. such a cute blog, such a cute story.

and it is extremely weird of me to even talk about love. so.. there you go.
its THAT cute.

as for me:
1 day to apartment move in/living
2 days to being unemployed
3 days to friends reunited
5 days to a new ward
6 days to classes

now that looks like a dang good week. eh?
to all of you that started school this week.. that really stinks.
kidding.. hope it's going well! i'll be right with you soon.

4.21.2011

this is what i did my freshmen year.

these were my first friends at byu. minus mckenna, not to be a hater but this is the only time i've seen her :) haha.
this was the first football player i met at byu. he's great with names :)
this was a late night adventure, and eric was the first boy i let drive chuck the truck. these two helped name him :)
we danced lots. (cue random boys.)
ward dances ..
even at paint dances
even fancy dances
this was my first road trip. i loveee these girls
random floats pop up sometimes, so we climbed them
freakin' awesome football seats.. this happens when you are friends with michelle wood
this is when we went to a movie two hours early, and had sooo much fun while waiting. aren't these boys cute?
oh yeah, random gorillas pop up sometimes at byu too
chocolate milk pong anyone?
AHH! i saw HP7 before the midnight showing! HIGHLIGHT
ps this is my roommate, we're perfect for each other, right?
i got to be closer to my fam.
ps kate's getting MARRIED!! AH!
oh yeah. byu basketball.. kinda a big deal.
yeah, i caught jimmer mania too..
you wouldn't believe the things i did for a seat at the basketball game..
this is the christmas party i threw. bomb. love these girls.
my first concert here was with this girl. DASHBOARD. SOOO GOOD!
roommate.
gotta decorate the space.
fun dates.
my baby wesley. now lives with rachael kohler. thanks chaych :)
this girl is a best friend. the best friend. i'm going to miss her so much next year. but we'll still be close.
oh yeah, more family :)
i got rich at nickle city on my birthday.
there are fun things to do in provo.. like the tumble gym. so naturally we went there.
crazy girls get married their freshmen year, so we threw a bridal shower :)
froyo..
and more froyo..

and more :)

oh yeah. my friends? they're winners. (and the boys are losers.) ps we LOVE spazz.
this girl and i are just going to get closer this summer. love stg girls :)
oh yeah. and i pulled the most legit april fool's joke you'll ever see/hear/experience
studying stinks, but doing so in forts with a sleepover helps we found :)
oh yeah. we're dirty girls ;)
AND I GOT TO SEE FAMILY :)
and i faithfully attended ward prayer. because i love being around these people.
and here comes the shout out i could not do this blog post without.
to the people of my freshmen year.
where to begin?
i came to byu not knowing anyone. i was psyc'd about my roommate i got to know throughout the summer, but from there i wasn't quite sure what was going to happen.
from there its all an answered prayer.
i met raleigh, who was cutest girl around and went spring/summer so she had the hookups.
oh yeah, and guess what? hailey and elisa, some of my best friends, i met them the moment i checked in. it was great, hailey was your classic bubbly orem, utah girl. it kinda scared me at first, but then i noticed how awesome of a person, and even better a friend, she was.
then i got to know the girls on my hall. turns out they're all pretty rad and we all get along great.
on the side i also got to know some st. george girls. turns out this summer will be bomb :)
and then came my ward. and here are my friends freshmen year, give or take a few.
but really, what i'll miss the most is my ward. this may be because its a big group and thus contains most my friends, but seriously. they are the BEST ward. it is the best ward. our bishop even said so :) our bishopric was released on our last sunday. the last sunday was perfect! with different quirks that come with our ward. and our bishopric even said we're the best ward they've ever had :)
my best friends come from my ward. and now half of them aka the boys are leaving.
i'm going to miss them SO much, but at the same time i've never been so proud of a group of boys. guys. men. whatever. :) haha. seriously though. they're devoting two years of their life to the Lord. and they've been preparing all year for it. they are great examples to me. and its the cutest thing to see them get their mission calls and see how freakin' excited they get. ah. they're so cute. i love every one of them. and the girls? holy cow they're going to be something awesome. each of them is special. yeah i know that sounds tacky but there are so many talented girls. i look up to them too, and i just hope that we will all stay close. so. with that. my freshmen year was perfect. my grades sure weren't, but the year was. they temporarily filled the place of my family while i was away from home. and they did a dang good job. they made church, prayer, fhe, really anything with them SO much fun. anyways. so here are some pictures of the crew. we're hot. admit it.
