so. THIS is what happened. but the short version is that brandon davies has been kicked off the BYU basketball team due to an honor code violation.
what is the honor code you ask?
Be honest
Live a chaste and virtuous life
Obey the law and all campus policies
Use clean language
Respect others
Abstain from alcoholic beverages, tobacco, tea, coffee, and substance abuse
Participate regularly in church services
Observe the Dress and Grooming Standards
Encourage others in their commitment to comply with the Honor Code

every BYU student is required to live by it, even our athletes, even those who are not LDS.
this is one of the major reason i chose byu over any other schools. for me its a positive..
i've lived by this honor code my whole life and most of the time i was left out because of it.
i never exactly fit in and high school and a lot of high school was hard for me because of my standards.
that's why i'll probably never live in SD again, unless i somehow end up there when i'm married.
at BYU everyone has come from different state, different backgrounds, but here we all are required to live the honor code the same.
sure, people get away with not. but it's still a lot better than most other colleges, not that i'm bashing them, we just have different requirements.
BYU tuition is only $2,000 a semester, but that's because our church funds so much for BYU and therefore it's totally fine in my eyes to require an honor code.
it stinks that b davies messed up and now has national attention examining his mistake, but at the same time all BYU athletes know that they have to represent our school and our standards no matter where they are. i've heard plenty of stories of strict requirements that different teams have when they travel so that they are giving the right impression when other judge them or ask questions when they find out they're from BYU.
i'm proud of BYU for sticking to our standards, although i never doubted it for a second.
i was really worried when it got national attention, just like i'm defensive of my church, i'm defensive of my school and standards and i didn't want people picking apart our honor code, it's something i'm proud of.
that's why this video really impressed me with these BYU commentators..

i also like this comment i found on espn.com-
- "I always get a kick out of the view from the "rest of the world". The one about him getting kicked off the team because he flossed his teeth wrong made me laugh out loud. But seriously, this is not good news for BYU Bball but I couldn't be more proud of my old school today. They do the right thing everytime, regardless of the circumstances. Which is why when an employer hires a BYU grad, they don't worry about them, they know they come from a background of integrity and honesty. And that is that." -- SN commenter jwp4400
we'll be fine. and even if we don't do as well as we could of, it just wasn't meant to be.

and it will all be okay because..
